Letter #11

Dear Reader,

Two nights passed before I was allowed into the Place Beyond again. This time the opening into the Supply Closet had disappeared! I overheard that they had shut the door. A door, by the way, is a wall that comes and goes. However, this door-wall has a very thin crack running under it. I figure that if I can dig away some of the fluffy stuff in front of it, I can easily squeeze underneath. Fortunately, the Pets often fail to pay close attention to me when I am exploring. I managed to dig quite a hole in the fluff before I ambled away and then let Sweetie catch me and put me back home. I don't understand why they can't put my fresh food out before they let me out to explore.

I was making good progress on my hole when Sweetie discovered my project. She got agitated again. Obviously there is something in the Supply Closet that they don't want me to find. I suspect that it is where they hoard food. My deduction made me all the more determined to get inside. Finally, Sweetie came and crouched down beside the door and pushed me away every time I tried to go back to digging. She batted me off one too many times, and I felt no compunction in giving her a warning nip. The result of that was that I was scooped up immediately and dumped back into my own territory again. However, I don't in the least regret it and would do it again.

Two days later...

Today I got back inside the Supply Closet! The door-wall was shut, and I was digging away at the soft stuff when I heard Sweetie say:

"If she is that obsessive about going inside, I'm going to let her in."

Not grasping her meaning, I continued to dig until I found myself lifted up and set down before an opening in the door.

Thrilled but wary, I crept inside. However, somehow the Supply Closet was less wonderful than I remembered it. After a few disappointed seconds, I came back out. All the same, digging the hole had turned out to be fun and I don't intend to give that up!
